Out on the Moss there was some interesting light.

Local

I arrived home tonight to find this guy on the bird table. One of a family that have been coming to our bird table for 20 years!

Moorfoot Hills

Looking the other way was a different storm in the distance! Birds seen here this week include buzzard, kestrel, several snipe, curlew, pheasant (nearly got itself run over!), oystercatchers, short-eared owl and heard a grasshopper warbler!

Pentland Hills

I was sitting at my computer, when suddenly there was an almighty flash of lightning and crash of thunder. I dashed out and caught the tail end of this passing storm. Unfortunately there was no more lightning... so ended my evening of storm chasing!

Auchencorth Moss

We have been getting a lot of weather on the Moss recently. Apart from photography it is a great place for bird-watching!

Robin

Last Robin of the day - it was watching me!

Blue Tit

The Blue Tit dives in and dives out very very quickly. I have a lot of pictures of either a blue and yellow blur, or, an empty bird table - the latter make me :-)!

Coal Tit

The Coal Tit would grab a seed and hold it between its feet and peck away at it!

Town Hall pigeon

The bird table was moved today out of range of a kitten. It puzzled some of the birds! The pigeons were almost the last to visit the table in the new location. The blackbirds have closely watched but have not ventured onto the table.

Exit

I was fortunate to have a spare hour during a day visit to London. Just as the light was getting interesting - bright sunlit buildings against a darkening sky, I had to leave to catch the plane back home :-)

Strange light

As the light rapidly faded a distant shower was highlighted over the moor road... time for home!

Pentland Hills

There was a glimmer of light in the distance so we headed that way

Light and dark... at this point it was about 8 deg C colder and it started to rain/hail

A photographer can be seen just behind the spray!

North Berwick

The wandering photographer braved a soaking by going to the end of the rocky headland to the right of the spray to get the next two images!

North Berwick

From snowy landscape to sea, the wandering photographer visited the wild sea in the afternoon

Pentland Hills

Fresh snow, overcast, very cold biting wind, outside 24 hours, sheep here are very hardy... more than can be said of the wandering photographer!

Tracks in the snow

A ploughed field with a mantle of snow always makes a interesting image

Pentland Hills in the snow

Hmmm... snowy times again this morning!

Saturday, 5 April 2008

Auchencorth Moss looking towards the Moorfoot Hills

Again, a distant squall is bathed in a weak red light as the sun sets. The snow covered Moorfoots can be seen behind. After this the frozen wandering photographer went home for hot chai!

Auchencorth Moss

As the sun set, the red light lit up a squall over the moor road. These squalls have been heavy hailstones

Pentland Hills from Auchencorth Moss

A 'wow' sky... if you like stormy weather! The last rays of the sun are just catching the hills on the extreme right.

Auchencorth Moss

This evening temperatures dropped to zero with a very strong cold wind, the higher hills has a thin veneer of snow. As you can see it was stormy

Carnethy Hill, Pentland Hills

As you can see the wandering photographer escaped to press his shutter another day!
